Curriculum at a Glance
Our curriculum is one continuous learning journey from S1 to S6. In junior forms, Citizenship, Economics and Society (CES) helps students understand themselves, their community and our country. In senior forms, Citizenship and Social Development (CSD) builds on this so students can explore Hong Kong, our country and the contemporary world in greater depth.
Junior Forms: Three Strands of CES
The CES curriculum is organised around three key strands:
- Personal and Social Development: Helps students build a positive self-understanding, strengthen their life skills, and maintain healthy relationships with family, friends, and the wider community.
- Resources and Economic Activities: Develops students' financial literacy and their understanding of how the government manages public resources and how the economies of Hong Kong and our country perform.
- Social Systems and Citizenship: Helps students understand their rights and duties, the constitutional basis of the HKSAR formed by the Constitution and the Basic Law, the political structure of our country, and how countries cooperate to respond to global issues.
Senior Forms: Three Themes of CSD
The CSD curriculum is structured around three core themes and an experiential study component:
- Theme 1: Hong Kong under "One Country, Two Systems": Examines the relationship between our country and the HKSAR since the return to the motherland. Students learn the meaning of "One Country, Two Systems" and the constitutional basis jointly formed by the Constitution and the Basic Law, deepening their understanding of national conditions and their sense of national identity.
- Theme 2: Our Country since Reform and Opening-up: Enables students to understand our country's development from both domestic and international perspectives.
- Theme 3: Interconnectedness and Interdependence of the Contemporary World: Covers topics on the economy, technology, sustainable development, and public health, helping students understand the conditions humanity faces today and broaden their horizons.
- Mainland Study: Gives students an opportunity to observe our country's development and people's daily lives at first hand.
Connected Learning
The strands and themes are not separate fields of knowledge; they are interconnected and build on one another across the six years:
- Governance & Constitutional Foundation: Learning about the governance of the HKSAR in S2 prepares students for studying "Hong Kong under 'One Country, Two Systems'" in senior forms.
- Economic Progression: S3 topics covering our country's economy and world trade lead directly into the study of economic globalisation in CSD.
- Multiperspective Synthesis: Students are encouraged to connect what they learned in junior forms and across other senior subjects, enabling them to examine issues from multiple perspectives and build a solid foundation of knowledge.
