Unveiling Nature’s Architecture: Hexagonal Columns and Coastal Wonders
On January 28th, our geography students embarked on an unforgettable field trip to the High Island Reservoir in Sai Kung. The expedition aimed to study diverse geological landforms firsthand, including the famous hexagonal columnar joints - formed by the cooling of extrusive igneous rock (tuff) - as well as coastal sea caves and beaches.
The journey offered a good opportunity to see textbook diagrams transform into reality while providing a welcome escape from the concrete jungle. I was particularly stunned by the sheer scale of the five-story-high tuff columns; it was a moment where our classroom knowledge truly came to life.
