HKUGA College Students' Landslide Recognition at TED Ed Student Talks 2026 Final Showcase
On the 26th of April, nine HKUGA College students stood amongst numerous other students from all over Hong Kong at The Harbour School to deliver their self-written speeches at the TED Ed Student Talks 2026: "Creating Our Futures 2046", hosted jointly by the Hong Kong Rotary Club and Project Agora. Standing in crowd as duos and solos, UGA students took to the stage like fish to water to demonstrate their public speaking skills. While not a competition, the TED Ed Student Talks offered their acknowledgement to the brave students, who were recognised with awards befitting their talent.
Adjudicated by an expert panel of public speakers and experts on the stage - namely Mr. Phil Leung, Dr. Arnett Edwards, Prof. Scarlet Tso, Mr. Michael Thorneman, Mr. Kevin Ho and Ms. Joan Cho - our team of public speakers did exceptionally well!
Natalie Chan (S1G) won Best Audience Engagement for her Monologue titled "Between the Noise"
Jasmine Wong (S3H) won Best Storytelling AND Best Use of Humour for her Monologue titled "What will creativity be?"
Jason Ng (S4A) & Hannes Law (S4H) won Most Impactful Speech AND Best Advocate for Peace for their Duologue titled "How Climate Change Reshapes Who We Are in 2046"
Matthew Tsang (S5H) & Larry Yang (S5) won Best Audience Engagement for their Duologue titled "Research Integrity in the Age of AI — who to trust?"
Alexis Cheung (S2G) and Alvina Wu (S2K) won Certificates of Achievement for their Duologue titled "Is the ‘social’ in social media ruining your social life?"
Tianna Wong (S3C) won Certificate of Achievement for her Monologue titled "Coding the Camera: Videography in 2046"
Not only were our students professional and poised, but their research was robust and respectable. These students - like most students at UGA - strive for excellence, and in doing so, push themselves out of their comfort zones and expand their horizons relentlessly. Congratulations to our pioneering public speakers!
