30 June - 4 July 2019 – Geography Taipei Field Trip

30 Jun - 04 Jul 2019
Academic

The Geography Department arranged an overseas geography field trip to Taipei for S5 geography students from 30th June to 4th July. The aim was to let students observe, experience and apply what they have learnt from textbooks in real world situations.

During the trip, students went to different field sites to learn about various topics, including: Shifen, learning about the landform features in the upper course of a river, such as potholes and waterfalls; Yehliu Geopark, learning about the landform features along coastal regions, such as sedimentary rocks and different denudation processes; Hsinchu Science Park, learning about the locational factors of high-tech industries located in the suburbs of Taipei City; Green World, learning about different species in diverse landscapes, such as deserts and rainforests, and how they adapt to such extreme environments; Guandu Nature Park, where there are different wetland sites that form different unique ecosystems; Beitou Thermal Valley and Beitou Hot Spring Museum, to see how the volcanic features, such as natural hot springs, bring opportunities to the local Beitou people; and Songshan Cultural and Creative Park, to see how the Taipei Government endeavours to preserve local heritage, and revitalizes it by giving it new functions.

We would like to thank our school and teachers for arranging such a unique learning opportunity, and we hope such overseas field trips will continue and become one of the subject’s regular practices.
