24 February 2023 - S6 Last School Day
This day came sooner than we all expected. It was the last school day for all S6 students, and the school prepared numerous activities for us, ending this chapter of our secondary school lives with those unforgettable memories.
Our last day of school started with Principal Chen’s speech in the school hall. She expressed how proud of our cohort she is, how we still flourished despite being overwhelmed by difficulties posed by COVID throughout our senior years. She also gave us a few words of advice, reminding us to stay mindful about our physical and mental health, and to have the courage to ask for help whenever we are down in the depths. Her speech instilled pride in us ourselves, while also preparing us for the study break that lies ahead of us.
Speaking of preparing for the study break and the DSE, the assistant principal, Mr. Yeung gave us some reminders regarding the exam. Ms. Shum invited a few alumni from last year’s cohort – Ryan, Charlotte and Keith – to share about their experiences during the study break, and also a few tips and reminders that we might find useful as the DSE approaches. Ms. Shum also invited the vice president of the HKUGAC Alumni Association, Rex Yung to introduce the association with us soon-to-be graduates.
Other than the principal, the teachers and the alumni, the student council also prepared some farewell gifts for us. By giving each of us a dharma, they wished us the best of luck in the DSE.
Events for the last day did not end in the school hall. The school organised two surprise piñatas for us to ‘enjoy’ outside the school hall, not just for us to have fun, but also to symbolise us beating the DSE, and grabbing the candy which symbolised us obtaining good results in the exams. Other than that, we were also asked to write down our fears and bad habits on a piece of paper, fold it into a plane, and launch them from the first floor to the amphitheatre. This symbolised us removing all obstacles and also motivated us to face our fears – two very meaningful and enjoyable activities organised by the school.
After making the most out of these two activities, we returned to our homerooms for our final, official CT time. During this period, we received our report cards and our predicted grades, as well as listened to our class teachers as they bid us farewell. For my own class, S6YC, our class teachers praised us for being the one and only class that truly abides by the ‘work hard play hard’ principle, and for that, they feel extremely blessed to be our class teachers. It was an emotional moment to say the least.
Our class teachers gave us farewell gifts and told us to make full use of the following period to capture every moment of our last hour at HKUGA College as students. We ran around the school, taking pictures with all of our friends, and also made use of the photo booth that the school had set up for us. We also made use of this hour to have our friends and teachers sign our uniform, to commemorate the bonds we forged during these few years, and to capture all the memories we made.
With all the events the school organised for us, this was genuinely a fruitful last day.
