18 - 28 July 2024 - Rwanda Service Trip
From July 18 to July 28, 9 S4 students and 3 teachers participated in a service-learning program organized by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) in Rwanda, Africa. Everyone received a series of training workshops on installing solar panels and lighting systems before departure. Afterwards, the students applied the skills to assist over 400 households in Rwanda, working alongside other students from different secondary schools as well as students from PolyU.
In addition to the voluntary service work, students and teachers had the opportunity to visit the Genocide Museum in Rwanda to learn about the country's history. They also had a city tour to gain a better understanding of Rwanda's history and current economic development. Finally, the students went on a safari to explore the natural environment of Africa.
This service-learning program provided the students with hands-on experience in solar technology installation, as well as opportunities to learn about Rwanda's past and present through cultural and historical site visits. The service-learning program not only allowed the students to develop practical technical skills, but also fostered a greater sense of global awareness and empathy as they gained firsthand experience assisting local communities and learning about the country's complex history and environmental landscape.
